ICAO 053 – Approach Procedural Control Course (7 Weeks)
Overview:
This 7-week course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills for Approach Procedural Control, following 2 weeks of theoretical training and practical applications in both classroom and simulator environments. The course builds upon topics covered in ICAO 051, with a focus on procedural separations and approach control techniques.
Theoretical Topics Include:
- Approach Control General
- Terrain Clearance
- Cruising Levels Revision
- Charts and Symbols
- IFR Procedures Revision
- Clearances Issued to IFR Flights
- Holding Procedures
- Instrument Approach Procedures
- Separation Techniques (Vertical, Longitudinal, Lateral)
- Coordination between Approach, Aerodrome, and Area Control
Simulator Training:
Simulator training focuses on approach procedural environments with exercises on vertical, lateral, and time-based separations, both with and without SIDs and STARs. Students will also practice VOR/DME separation and managing traffic flows from holding patterns to landings. Complex scenarios, including emergencies, missed approaches, and visual/IFR approaches, are incorporated in the later stages of training.
Examinations:
Students are required to pass both the theory and practical exams with a minimum score of 70%.
